Hi,

I saw that as a commnunity app, the developers cant be employees of a liferay's partner, how valid is that rule, because as far i know a community component can be developed by any person in terms of open source philosophy,

Thanks,
James Falkner

This restriction is only for prizes for the App Contest - not for *all* Marketplace apps. Just those that enter the contest.

It's a standard "conflict of interest" rule. We must not award prizes to companies or people that have a financial relationship with Liferay (the company), without explicitly calling out a separate category for them, otherwise it would appear that the contest was "rigged" and unfair and that we were only giving out prizes to people and companies that we can directly influence (or that they can influence us).

So, any person can develop a community plugin and publish it to the Marketplace, and even make it open source. But if you are employed by a partner company, it cannot be submitted to the App Contest under the "Community" category. It must be submitted to the contest under the other category (even if it is open source and free, etc).
