The Marketplace Developer Portal will be moving into a bigger and better home! Over the next several months, we'll be transitioning content over to the new Liferay Developer Network (LDN), which will be the definitive site for all things related to Liferay development. Once the transition is complete, you'll find all content related to Marketplace app publishing in the "Distribute" section of the new LDN.

You can check out the beta version of LDN, where we've already started to transition some of our content. We'll keep you posted on progress and let you know when our move is complete. Thanks again for being an important member of the Liferay community!

Liferay is extending our Marketplace paid app developer promotion and waiving the $99 annual fee until the end of 2015! Whether it's a new, high-value app that addresses a specific business problem or a "premium" version of an existing free app, this is the perfect opportunity to offer your paid app on a platform with over 500,000 deployments worldwide!

This year, with the introduction of paid apps, we judged across two different dimensions: commercial/non-commercial and free/paid, which resulted in 4 different categories and 4 grand prize winners (and 4 runners up). Apps were judged for their creativity and usefulness, ease of installation/setup, user interface, user experience, Liferay integration, and completeness of solution.

A lot of people have asked for it - and it's now available in the Liferay Marketplace. Liferay's Right to Left Language Support is a Liferay app that automatically adapts Liferay Portal styles for right-to-left (RTL) languages. While Liferay Portal supports RTL languages out-of-the-box, certain page elements still may not render properly. Just deploy the RTL Hook to correct this. You can also use the RTL Hook to provide support for RTL languages in your own apps.

Both EE and CE versions of the app are available.

It's back! To celebrate and reward our outstanding community of Marketplace developers, I am happy to announce the opening of the 2014 Liferay Marketplace App Contest! Last year, we had over 70 submissions and many winners (so many that we had to extend the review period an extra week). We saw some really great and innovative apps, and also saw a nice bump in Marketplace activity in general. Last year's winners saw an average of 7x increase in downloads and 2000+ views! So while the prizes are nice, the increased visibility (and bragging rights) are even sweeter. So we're doing it again. Check out the official contest page (and official rules) for more details.

Since launching in 2012, Liferay Marketplace has seen some great growth, multiplying almost 5x in number of apps and registering more than 600 developers in over 25 countries.
We're very excited about this next chapter of Liferay Marketplace, which will enable the sale and purchase of paid apps. E-commerce is the crucial next step to our efforts to bring valuable apps to Liferay users while empowering our community of partners and developers.
