Description #
There are four sections in this wiki page:
- "Suggested Improvements" are features proposed by the Liferay community. These features are added after being discussed in the forums. It is hihgly recommended to link to the original forum post for further references, description of the feature and use cases definitions.
- "Suggested Improvements - Implemented": community proposals already implemented in Liferay Portal
- "Community suggestions added to the current roadmap": features proposed by the Liferay community that are planned to be implemented in the next major version by the Liferay team.
- "Suggestions validated by the Liferay team": features the Liferay team finds interesting for the product, that have been validated, but are not planned to be implemented in the short term. Contributions of these features by the community are welcome.
Note: we only remove the suggestions from the initial list when they are implemented
Suggested Improvements #
- Wiki Administration
- There should be a built in role for WIki administration so that a regular User can be granted rights to roll back content, add & delete pages, and edit pages.
- Set defaults for wiki from the control panel
- Ability to rename "FrontPage"
- Ability to rename "Children Pages"
- Ability to turn off "Orphan Pages" for non-editors (see post)
- Ability to turn off "Chidren pages" and use some other navigation. Consider adding a “Children Pages” tab when editing a wiki. This would give the people who have the ability to modify the wiki the ability to see the children easily. (see post)
- Administrator should be able to set default styles for Wiki from the Control Panel
- Administrator should be able to set default modes of operation from the Control Panel (e.g. HTML, Creole, etc., see post)
- Ability to create wiki page templates ( ticket)
- Link Management
- It seems that the wiki doesn't allow for relative paths. I use liferay in my product so I don't always know what the URL is going to be. So, if we could allow for something like this [/myfolder/mypage|My Link] (see post).
- Auto linking - if a term in the Wiki matches a page title exactly, it is auto linked (see post))
- Linking to a speicific tag or category in the "tag" and "category" nav portlets (see post).
- Wiki-standard Inter-wiki linking (see post)
- Link dialog in Wiki should include "Link Type" of "Local Wiki" (along with URL, email, etc.) and "Browse Server" dialog box should allow page selection.
- Update Incoming Links and Outgoing for HTML pages (not only for creole, see post and post).
- Linking to a concrete section of a wiki page without writing the whole url ( ticket)
- Wki Permissions
- Wiki Navigation
- Wiki should be able to be configured to pull in all Wiki pages and display them based on the permissions of the viewer.
- This would allow for an org-wide wiki that is built one section a time by each Group, Community, and Sub-Org.
- Comments
- There should be a m oderation log much like the one suggested for the message board
- Have public or user/role based viewing of comments but no ability to add comments
- Have user/role based addition of comments
- Subscription to wiki should get notifications of comments (see post)
- Index comments so they are searchable (see post)
- Have User/member to edit their own comments but restrict them from deleting comments made by other users. Currently update allows editing and deleting of other comments.
- Wiki Content
- Ability to add web cam portlet to wiki page
- Ability to add video to wiki page
- Ability to publish directly to wiki via WebDAV
- Ability to sort Wiki tables by column (see post)
- Wiki Subscriptions
- Email messages that come from Wiki pages in HTML format are a mess in the emailer!
- There should be a delay of several (configurable) minutes before the email notifications are send out, otherwise your email box is overloaded with small changes after a save and an update.
- Subscription should offer IM/email/SMS/alert/announcement notification of
- Wiki Migration
- Import process from other popular wikis (see post).
- Wiki-Related Portal Changes
- User Ability to pull specific wiki pages on to a user's personal page for monitoring
- Ability for Adminsitrator to push specific wiki pages on to a user, group, community or org page.
- Wiki Security
- Wiki User Interface
- Copying, Deleting, Moving and Renaming pages should be more obvious. The "Details" label isn't very user-friendly.
- Make a tab called "Actions" and put that sort of stuff in there.
- Move really should do that without leaving the artifact of the old page name in the wiki.
- Renaming a page should leave the old page name. (see post)
- Attachments should, for consistency reasons, be presented as a more integral part of the document library. A first step is to make them visible in the webdav view (like the image library files), but maybe the Document Library Portlet should be made configurable to show the attachment items within the portlet also.
- Attachments files shouldn't be located on a separated tab, they should go down on a list at the end of the article
- Attachments files with various versions of that file should be shown in a navigation tree way where you have the most recent version first, and you see the older versions when you expand that node
Suggested Improvements - Implemented #
- Breadcrumbs should be added to be able to step back in the hierchy. Resolution: this has been fixed with the new global breadcrum in Liferay 6
- Comments should be able to be moderated. Resolution: this feature has been implemented in Liferay 6, by using the workflow engine
- Allow Special Characters and Punctuation in Wiki Title Resolution: see http://issues.liferay.com/browse/LPS-2588
- It should be easier to create a Wiki node. Resolution: in Liferay 6 this is quite straightforward using the wiki portlet in the control panel
Community suggestions added to the current roadmap (Liferay 6.1) #
- Built in role for Wiki administration
- Create a wiki admin portlet where the admin can manage the wiki
- Ability to rename "FrontPage" and "Children Pages"
- Ability to hide "Orphan Pages" for non-editors
