To whom it may concern,

Question 1: Does any developer know that he or she will pay annual program fees of Liferay Marketplace ?

I am a poor and cheap man. At the half way of registration I gave up to join the Marketplace because I didn't accept term 6 Developer Agreement.

6. Program Fees
As consideration for the rights and licenses granted to you under this Agreement and your participation in the Marketplace Program, you agree to pay Liferay the requisite annual program fees as set forth by Liferay. The fees are non-refundable. Any taxes that may be levied on the Liferay Software or your use of it shall be your responsibility. Your program fees must be paid up and not in arrears at the time you submit (or resubmit) your Developer Products to Liferay under this Agreement, and your continued use of the Marketplace site is subject to your payment of such fees.

Question 2: Does Liferay tell us the price list about the above term 6 ?

Although this clip looks funny http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/382781/business-casual-g-men , I really recommend to watch it and consider any term and conditon you accept.

Hi Ching,

In the past, we assumed that there would be program fees for all add-ons, generally. But what we ultimately decided is to remove all program fees for free add-ons. In the future, as soon as paid add-ons are made available, there will be program fees. So the truth is, we can probably remove that language from our current developer agreement.

Hope that clarifies things.

Hi Brian Kim,

According to your message, my understanding is:
1. marketplace will charge developers fees.
2. Term 6 may or may not be removed ( = probably remove).

My point is I cannot accept the marketplace will charge developers any amount without any price list provided before
Please remove term 6 first if you don't have any price tag.

Having read your marketplace documentations, there is other long reasons I don't join it. Because I am retired and then I become retarded. I need time to write the reasons.

I tell you later.

I agree with Ching on some points. I think there was a place for the community plugin page to still exist for all those developers who just wanted to share their plugins free of charge with other users. Developers were able to upload and register their own portlet without too much interference from liferay.com. This way, users were able to kind of note that these plugins may not work as expected.

I thought the Marketplace was more to developers who wanted to "sell" their plugins. I can reason that these requires some kind of quality checking and legal conditions. These are just additional work that most developers writing free plugins don't want to deal with.

I see that most of these free plugins are available at non-liferay.com site as well (e.g. github). Would you mind if I just create a link list to these site on a wiki where developers can just add their links to their project sites?

Brian, I know you've put a lot of your time into making the Marketplace, but I'm feeling it's going in a wrong direction when you're requiring free plugins to reside there too when the Marketplace really should be focused on non-free plugins. I think you'll also be able to cut running cost of handling these free plugins which doesn't give liferay.com any revenue.

Hitoshi Ozawa,

Although I dislike you to refute my points of view at the other topic, this time I admire you point out a confusion about the marketplace in free and non-free plugins.
You always daresay what's wrong of Liferay. If I were you, I would charge Liferay a fee of consultancy. That's why I dislike you to give Liferay advice for free. emoticonemoticon

Yes there was. This was the time that we started to develop our plugins http://www.rotterdam-cs.com/-/portlets-and-plugins-for-liferay. Overall we had invested about 60.000 EURO when the marketplace was announced. Then this page disappeared from one day to the other. The community edition that works properly with the marketplace was then announced almost monthly, without ever appearing. Based on these promises we kept on developing new plugin's. The community plugin page never re-appeared and we are still waiting (almost a year after launch) for a working LIferay version (let's call it 6.1 GA3) that has all the fixes. We have now invested over 120K and stopped our innovation program until we see a working Marketplace. It really is a shame that the page for free plugins never re-appeared and that that companies that are willing to create so much value for Liferay do not warrant a little bit of recognition. But the biggest issue is that the Liferay version that really supports Marketplace with all of it's security features is still not released.

Brian please, take you community more serious. Liferay is burning good will at the moment, and this come from a person that goes to work with a Liferay bag, wears Liferay T-shirts and drinks his coffee from a Liferay mug. Please, give me a platform where we can show our stuff!

Aad,
I think you best summarized what most of us Liferay entrepreneur out here are thinking about Marketplace and how Liferay is wasting momentum and partners commitment about it.

I'm not sure if you've all seen this yet, but you'll want to check out James Falkner's recent post:
