  Here are the suggesstions on the improvement of chat plugin.... If I've missed something, please feel free to add it in.

Chat History

  • An option to see the chat history for individuals ( already it is maintained in the database)
  • Ability for administrator to have functionality in the control panel to extract chat history
  • Provision for Delete option on chat history for individuals ( turn on/off by administrator) <-- I would change this so that the user can delete it from *their* view but it's still maintained and the admin or omni-admin can still extract it. 
  • Word filter that can be turned on (see below) 

 

Other Messengers

  •  Ability to configure and use other instant messenger accounts (MSN, Yahoo, Gmail, etc.) 
  • Ability to send and receive messages via SMS

 

Offline Messages

  • An option to send offline messages to the friends.(also a copy to be sent to mail)
  • This option must be enabled by the individual only whether he wants to accept offline messages from other friends (A permission like Accept Offline Messages) 

 

User Features

  • Provide a much better alert for new chats coming in, especially also when the window does not have the focus (chat requests are often missed by users)
  • Ability to log in in "stealth mode" so that you are invisible to other users
  • Ability to block other users selectively
  • Ability to report inappropriate messages to a designated moderator or administrator
  • Resizable message window
  • Able to send a "nudge" or "buzz"
  • Being Able to group my contacts and expand or contract groups

 

Admin Features

  • Ability to create multiuser chats 
  • Ability to broadcast to users via chat
  • Control panel customization of chat for CSS, images, etc.
  • Ability to supress links to the outside
  • Ability to configure the maximum displayed users and a scrollable window.

I think we should watch to google waves capabilities. Well, actually, it's more than a Chat. But that way of communication is very, very powerfull and handy for business. I think of all the ping pong E-Mails at our company. I expect that every organisation has a need on such a "Chat"-System.

As my best knowlegge the current chat system is based on jabber. Google wave is - actually - based on that too. But one of the biggest issues i see is the complex userinterface. But with ALLOYUI LIFERAY provides a great upcomming UI Framework ...

Ability to integrate with a different xmpp chat server. This also ties in with the mutliple people in a chat room and the google wave ideas. I have noticed that we get a notification when a key is pressed, but not what the key is (null). So therefore it shows we are typing (but not as we type as in wave). Integration of a wave server and a portlet (or 5 :-)) to handle the functionality really would be an incredible feature.

hi i want to modify the source is possible? you can make open source this portlet for my onw changes, this can make more easy all update, i want to make offline messages, and i want visual alert for blink web broser like google chat or facebook chat... i need to take the events, is posible now or can be posible some day? thxs... i only need the code o the way to take events the rest i can make possible!!!
