      Here are some quick instructions on how to install Liferay Social Office v1.X. This is specifically for windows but it will also run on other operating systems.

      If you want to install Liferay 2.0, please refer to the user guide: http://www.liferay.com/documentation/social-office/2.0/user-guide

      Windows#

      1) Download and save the desired bundle from http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/downloads/social_office

      2) Double click the icon on the desktop and install Social Office using all default values.



      3) Once it is installed, click start then programs then Liferay social office and then start in order to run social office.


      4) It will automatically open in a new browser window.

      Login#

      1) When prompted, sign in using the default user id and password.

      • user id: admin
      • password: admin



      2) You will be asked to choose a password reminder. There is also an option to create your own.


      3) You are then taken to the home page and can begin collaborating using all of the great features!

      You would point it to a database in the same manner in which you would point a Liferay-Tomcat bundle to a database. See the Liferay Administrator's Guide starting on page 36.

      I had to build the so-theme and so-portlet manually rather than install this one but my tomcat monitoreing console forever unregister the portlets deployed and keeps duplicating folders in my CATALINA_HOME\temp folder.

      I really need to stop this process and the log output is pasted below:

      User/Linux users will find the start/stop scripts in the [install-dir]/liferay-social-office-1.5b/tomcat-6.0.18/bin directory. Just invoke startup.sh to start the Tomcat server and the associated Liferay instance and shutdown.sh to stop them.

      BEWARE: starting the server will take some time (90 - 180 seconds).

      Once started the server, visit http://localhost:8080/ to see your site. The administrator username and password are admin, admin.

      Hi All,
      for crying out loud can someone please answer Jonathan Vance's question here? I'm facing the same problem. When i set up SO for MySQL database i'm getting a java null pointer error. I ve posted a lot of threads on this issue in the forums, but no one seems to respond.

      For Christ's sake someone answer me.

      Hi,
      I’m getting an ugly “Java null pointer exception” when I try to run Social Office on MySQL. I have tried to find the solution online but there is not much help out there. I have even posted in one of the forums, but there’s been no response in the last two days.

      So im just asking everyone who is involved with Social Office at some point or the other.

      I’m posting a few excerpts from the log file here. Please let me know if you can suggest me some workaround for this error.
