Agenda:
Do you need to integrate disparate enterprise systems/applications into a Liferay based portal? Do you want to leverage a Service Oriented Architecture to do so? Come hear Rex Petersen talk about a recent Xtivia Liferay 6.1 customer portal implementation where he and his team leveraged SOA concepts using a simplified "app services" model, and built an engaging user interface. Rex will go on to talk about possible improvements to this model, and its evolution using an Enterprise Service Bus.

Rex Petersen is an Enterprise Architect at Xtivia, Inc. with extensive experience in developing enterprise systems using Java and Portal technologies. He excels in delivering projects and products that delight customers and end-users, and can switch hats from an enterprise architect to a project manager to a business analyst to a developer to a do-it-all team player at a moment's notice.
Meeting Minutes:
The group got together for the 4th Liferay Austin User Group meetup and listened to Rex Peterson talk about some of the projects he's been working on, as well as his app services model. Basically, the idea behind the app services model is to push the controller logic to the client side with JQuery/JavaScript. This will help leverage speed and give the client a more dynamic, smooth experience. Rex ended his talk by reminding us to always question standards in an attempt to create better software.
