Agenda:
We will start off at 5.30pm with Keith O'Connell presenting about Liferay search using Apache Solr; in his talk, Keith will review the benefits of integrating the Solr enterprise search server with Liferay 6.1, and will run through the process required to configure and initialize Solr integration in a running Liferay 6.1 GA1 instance. Specific topics covered will include the following:
- Quick Summary of Solr search server
- Explanation of Liferay integration with Solr
- Solr installation and configuration
- Liferay configuration for Solr integration
- Solr tools for managing search collections.
Meeting Minutes:
Keith did an excellent presentation on using Apache Solr with Liferay 6.1, and the benefits of doing so! The group got a chance to see the faceted search capabilities of Liferay 6.1 and how easy it is to add a new facet when Solr is already indexing an attribute - he demonstrated adding "Author" and "File Extension" as facets. Additionally, he showed some of the capabilities that Solr brings from a manageability perspective - it provides significant insights into the search index and allows you to debug your search results. At the end of Keith's presentation, the team enjoyed some excellent Austin original Mangia pizza, beers and sodas. The next meet-up will be on Kaleo workflows with Sandeep presenting!
