Stephen Mock and Matthew Hanlon from the Texas Advanced Computing Center will be giving us a presentation on "Delivering Liferay Web Content to non-Liferay Platforms."
The proliferance of mobile platforms has introduced a new aspect to managing and delivering content to users. Many users now consume websites on multiple devices and expect those websites to respond to the device they are using in order to deliver a good experience for the capabilities of that device. Developing and managing content with this in mind is non-trivial. It requires significant time and training to make sure that content will format properly on all devices. This discussion will cover some techniques that TACC has developed for developing and delivering Liferay WebContent for both website pages in Liferay and for mobile-optimized websites as well as native applications on mobile platforms.
We will have beer, soda, and pizza (served at 6:30) at the meetup.
Speakers:
Steve joined TACC in December 2007 and directs the Advanced Computing Interfaces (ACI) program area. Steve's area of expertise is in web and mobile applications, as well as web service interfaces to high performance computing resources. Steve's ACI area consists of two groups at TACC, the Web and Mobile Applications group, and the Web and Cloud Services group.
Prior to joining TACC, Steve worked at the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) for nine years as a Programmer/Analyst III working on portal and grid software development projects.
Matthew Hanlon, Manager Web and Mobile Applications, Texas Advanced Computing Center
Matthew joined TACC in 2010 to help develop TACC's Portal applications including the TeraGrid User Portal and the Longhorn Vis Portal, as well as working with the iPlant Collaborative project. Matthew and is currently leading the Web and Mobile Applications group as and is the project lead for the TACC User Portal. Other projects he is working on include the XSEDE User Portal and the Integrated Breeding Platform. Prior to joining TACC, Matthew worked for Alliance Communications Management as a Senior Software Engineer and was responsible for developing highly interactive web applications as well as developing client-server software applications.
Matthew's academic interests include economics, philosophy, mathematics and computer science. He is also active in the open source software community, participating and contributing to several open source projects.
Meeting Minutes:
Our 5th meetup was a success. Stephen and Matthew gave a great presentation regarding issues with exporting web content to external platforms. They have discovered a few ways of tackling this issue but are still seeking a better solution. We enjoyed pizza and beer afterwards. Here are some pics of the event.
