Market leaders create lightweight EAI strategy for customers

Los Angeles, CA — (April 30, 2013) — Liferay, Inc., a recognized leader in the enterprise portal market, today announced a multi-phase partnership with TIBCO Software Inc. that will deliver significant benefits to enterprises at significantly competitive prices. Available Q3 2013 for purchase from Liferay is a series of Liferay enterprise Connectivity Adapters (eC Adapters) that leverage TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks™ to simplify integration of Liferay Portal with multiple systems.

"Liferay Portal is a sophisticated, enterprise-ready platform that combines well with our innovative TIBCO solutions," said Tom Laffey, Executive Vice President of Products at TIBCO.  "We anticipate both ecosystems to benefit from our aligned strategies to solve important issues for our customers, and within the industry."

Following the availability of the Liferay eC Adapters, Liferay's partner ecosystem will be able to leverage the same cost advantages for developing turnkey business solutions that integrate into backend systems using the ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks™ adapters and plugins.  Each solution will contain a portal-based application that can connect through ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks to backend systems, providing a complete solution at a significant price advantage.

"This partnership addresses a specific market need: enterprises are looking to simplify integration, but direct integration, even if between two leading solution providers, does not follow architectural best practices —this partnership brings customers an independent, open architecture, so they can retain flexibility in their long-term IT decisions," said Paul Hinz, Chief Marketing Officer at Liferay, Inc. "Liferay's customers and community will value the leading capabilities of TIBCO's solutions and TIBCO's customers will appreciate Liferay's portal features and community strength."

The Liferay eC Adapters will be available in Q3 2013.  The two companies also plan to offer additional support packages and sales support for joint efforts in the future.

Freshly launched dashboard to promote ideas, drive engagement with community of portal developers, users, and partners

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — (March 26, 2013) — Liferay, Inc., provider of the world's leading enterprise-class open source portal, announced today the launch of a new Ideation initiative designed to foster the development of new products and features for the Liferay Portal platform. The initiative is aimed to empower Liferay's worldwide community of users, customers and partners to better coordinate the technical resources and business requirements needed to develop new features for Liferay's products and create new apps that can be delivered through Liferay Marketplace, the company's public apps repository.

Liferay's new Ideation initiative includes the launch of a dynamic, easy-to-use dashboard of product and feature ideas and a more streamlined ideation process. In the new Ideas Dashboard, community members can quickly see the most popular feature requests, champion app ideas to the community, and get a direct feed of upcoming features for Liferay products. This allows Liferay community members to actively participate in setting the direction of Liferay's products and to discover new ideas to implement for their own projects.

The dashboard also serves as a springboard for those wanting to develop apps for Liferay Marketplace. Developers can find other community members to participate in defining and developing new apps, which may not be on the company's road map, and use the Marketplace to make their apps available to the public. Liferay initially launched the Marketplace with over 70 apps and themes developed internally, and is now accepting third-party apps from its partners and community members.

"We are proud to say that Liferay from the outset has enjoyed a close relationship with its talented and dedicated community, and together we have made significant gains in raising the profile of open source software among enterprises," said James Falkner, Liferay's Community Manager. "We hope this effort will help us better gather and put into action the innovative ideas of our community while empowering individuals to add their own unique voices to the advancement of the Liferay platform."

Many key features in today's Liferay Portal have originated from Liferay's community, which generates thousands of feature suggestions each year and now number more than 85,000 members. Examples include Faceted Search, which debuted in Liferay Portal 6.1, and features that are now fixtures in the portal platform such as Communities, Virtual Hosts, Translations and Control Panel. With this new initiative, community members have a new way to propose and promote ideas of their own.

To contribute ideas to the Liferay community, visit the dashboard at www.liferay.com/community/ideas.

Open source portal provider again demonstrates completeness of vision and ability to execute

LOS ANGELES – September 22, 2015 – Liferay, Inc., which makes open source portal software, today announced that Gartner has named the company a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals.* Liferay is a Leader for the sixth consecutive year and positioned second furthest in completeness of vision and ability to execute in the Leaders quadrant.

Tweet this: @Gartner names #Liferay a Leader in the Horizontal Portals MQ now for six years in a row. #gartnermq

Gartner, a leading IT research firm, positioned the evaluated vendors in the portal market based on independent research and analysis. The Magic Quadrant gives enterprises a way to assess how well technology providers are executing their stated visions and how well they are performing against Gartner's market view. The 2015 report is available via Liferay: www.liferay.com/gartner-mq.

According to Gartner, the portal market is experiencing a resurgence: "The past five years has witnessed a massive transformation of the market for horizontal portals. The nexus of mobile, social, cloud and information has at once heightened the demand for this ‘personalized point of access ...' and engendered alternative ways to accomplish it."

"Today's companies have an opportunity to connect with their customers, employees and partners at a highly individual level," said Ed Chung, VP of Global Product Management for Liferay. "We've built the Liferay platform to make it easy to engage users with personalized, consistent experiences on the devices of their choosing. We believe Gartner's continued recognition affirms that Liferay technology helps companies make the most of this opportunity."

Companies can create consistent and integrated experiences across web and mobile channels

LOS ANGELES – (May 26, 2015) – Liferay, Inc., which makes enterprise open source portal software, today announced the availability of Liferay Screens to help companies develop native apps for the iOS and Android platforms. With Liferay Screens, organizations can easily extend the reach of their websites, portals, and intranets to mobile devices, and maintain a consistent experience for its users across all channels.

The release is part of Liferay's larger push to provide a mobile platform for companies developing several native apps across business units. With this strategy, Liferay hopes to save companies time and money by making it easier for mobile apps to reuse core data and services. The platform also ensures that users encounter consistent data and processes—such as registration, login, activity history, or documents—regardless of which interfaces they use to interact with the company.

"The problem we're trying to solve for companies is, ‘how do we quickly build great mobile apps that integrate with the overall customer experience, while keeping development costs to a minimum?'" said Juan Fernandez, Product Manager at Liferay. "Companies have to respond to the mobile explosion, but they need to do so with a strategy. With Liferay Screens, you can develop high-quality, elegant mobile apps quickly without compromising on these long-term considerations."

Liferay Screens also helps make native apps more useful to business units by removing the requirement for apps to be re-coded when business requirements change. For example, without Liferay Screens, a Customer Satisfaction Survey App would need to be updated and re-submitted to app stores whenever survey questions were updated. With a Liferay Screens-powered app backed by Liferay Portal, business users could update the questions in the portal, which would dynamically update the questions in the mobile app. The form submission could even be configured to trigger a workflow, which can also be updated by business users.

For mobile app developers and systems integrators, Liferay Screens provides several benefits over standalone or third party app development toolkits:

  • Fully compatible with standard development tools for iOS and Android
  • Lowers learning curve for developing apps backed by reusable backend services
  • Helps developers comply with UX and Brand requirements using Screens Themes, which follow Apple and Google's design languages and allow for custom colors
  • Adaptive layouts automatically ensure apps function and appear correctly on phones and tablets of any form factor
  • Reusable services like registration, user management, localization, and authentication help developers focus on more important business logic

Early beta testers of Liferay Screens have been enthusiastic about its benefits for mobile developers who need better mobile app development tools.

"I think the key differentiator of Liferay Screens compared to other mobile solutions in the market is the focus on native," said Nazaret Helices Perez, mobile developer at Near Technologies. "Working with native technologies is a must when you want to deliver high quality, high performance apps. Liferay Screens greatly facilitated this for our Liferay projects."

Salvador Tejero, mobile developer at Indra, added: "Liferay Screens is a breakthrough for the Liferay platform. After initial tests with Liferay Screens, we believe we will now be able to quickly create new screens in our mobile apps, easily feeding in content and services. This will add value to the end user and increase their loyalty... I'd highly recommend Liferay Screens to native app developers looking for a powerful and reusable backend."
