I'll cross fingers, that there will be something (pootle?) for upcoming releases.
It has just a little to do with patience I would have to translate it anyways. All the translation that has not been included, has to be integrated by me in an ext-plugin or so, before we can give LR 6 to our customers.
So, I'm just a little bit selfish ;)

I have figure out howto switch from ext-environment to ext-, hook- and theme-plugins. So I'm getting into it, but nevertheless thanks for that advice

I've started playing with a tool that Milan Jaros suggested (99translations.com) and found that currently there are a few keys in Language.properties that are not contained in Language_de.properties(.native). Isn't this supposed to be impossible? Shouldn't the build process add them and either translate them with Yahoo, babelfish, google or whatever or just copy the original value (and marked with "Automatic Copy" or "Automatic Translation")? Am I missing something obvious?

These are the values that 99translations complains about. I've checked a few keys and they don't exist in the german translation at all.

as you said, that would be imposible..... unless we haven't run the ant build-lang yet.

I think those strings were added last night, so they probably come up in your translation file if you ran build-lang or when Brian does it (he usually does it once a day and then commits it)...

I've made another set of updates for the German translation. These include the properties that Olaf did mention. So everything should be fine.... Until new properties will be added
(I'm feeling like being in "The Hare and the Hedgehog" or "Hare and Tortoise" ;) )

I think so too.
There is only one property that has the "(Automatic Translation)" tag:
new-gadget=Neues Gadget (Automatic Translation)

It has been added to the Language.properties yesterday, so I have missed that one

@Julio: I did clone this one, so the "fix version" and the "affected version" number are set wrong during cloning. You might want to fix that.

Maybe there will be some adjustments to the translation, after playing with the new release for a while.

I don't think this translation will be on time for 6.0 GA....

however, your changes wouldn't change anything because the existing value was the same, so, that is good news

If you find errors while using it, you can still send us your improvements and those will affect next versions (including EE)

Currently all German Umlauts are messed up. Something went wrong, when the last patch has been applied, see fisheye diff http://svn.liferay.com/browse/portal/trunk/portal-impl/src/content/Language_de.properties?r1=69877&r2=69906

Please be careful when you apply those patches.
