About
Dear Sir or Madam:

It's my pleasure to invite you to our first Portal Solutions Forum for business decision makers in the UK. Liferay's open source technologies are being used to solve a variety of business challenges, including reaching customers, reducing support center costs, marketing effectively online and integrating enterprise systems. The Portal Solutions Forum will bring practitioners together to learn more about the best practices and lessons learned in pursuing these goals.

The inaugural Portal Solutions Forum in the UK will take particular focus on Audience Engagement. All of us are wrestling with the question of how to strengthen our relationships with the groups that matter most to our companies: customers, partners, employees and the public. There are more ways than ever of interacting with them—in stores or at the office, through mobile devices or over the phone, using sophisticated web applications or through Twitter. How can we better integrate all of these touch points, so we can better understand each person's needs and get a comprehensive view of our relationships with them?

Portal technology has always been about connecting people, but in the past we've focused on getting them connected to data and applications. As we increase the focus to include interactions with people, portals will become the nexus for companies to build relationships with each of the major audiences they serve.

I hope you'll join us to learn and share your experiences. Let's see how our peers are tackling these challenges using open source technology. You'll also see some great case studies, learn about the future of our products and have the chance to receive product guidance.

We look forward to welcoming you in London to learn, network and be inspired together!

Best Regards,
Bryan Cheung
Founder & CEO, Liferay

10:10 Understand Your Customers, Partners and Employees: The Opportunity in Audience Engagement

Bryan Cheung

CEO and Founder

Liferay

Understanding the needs of the people you serve is at the heart of what makes an organization successful. IT systems have primarily been seen as places to store "official" information, with users being passive consumers of that information (bank statements, documents, reports). But the interactive nature of the Internet means companies now have more insight than ever into the motivations, needs and behaviors of the people they serve. It's time to re-imagine the way portals can be used to build relationships and bring proper context to our interactions with people.
