Expose portlets as Facebook applications

Wouldn't it be nice to deploy a portlet to Liferay and have it work as an application in Facebook?

Check out our message boards at http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/community/forums

Go to the bottom and click "Add to Facebook".

We've configured our public message boards to write its output as FBML when consumed by Facebook. Check it out.

Every portlet in Liferay is automatically exposable to Facebook. Simply go to Configuration -> Facebook, set your Facebook API key and other settings. We provide two implementations, one that uses FBML and one that is a simple IFrame.

Our Message Boards portlet uses FBML because we think that looks nicer and has a better user experience.

Can you see where this is going?

I'm having a little trouble having a play with this feature using the 5.0 branch and the latest from plugins trunk. It appears that the sql scripts to update the tables needs to be updated in svn.

I'm also patiently :- ) waiting on the add/remove friends feature of WOL. I've stepped through many of the Social* junit tests - waiting on the SDK svn update.

Care to tell us where this is going? I'm ready to create a bells_&_whistles SNS using lportal/Open Social. Are we there yet {famous line from the smirfs}?
Hi Brian,

This is great - definitely would give a lot of additional exposure in the FB community some of whom are already in our community.

Meanwhile, I would like to know your thoughts as well as point me to the right sources where I could find help in integrating tools that form part of the SDLC like JIRA or Trac etc. We are currently building a Product Innovation platform utilizing Liferay which will support the Idea to Product L/C. Any help in this direction will help us enormously.

Regards,
Dilip
