Hide notifications portlet in dockbar for certain users

Hi,
is there a way to hide the notifications portlet in the dockbar for certain users (e.g. users with role "User") without changing the portlet itself or even completely undeploying it? When I understand correctly, the notifications portlet dynamically changes the dockbar during runtime using JavaScript. Is that true?
Compared to that removing the "My sites" menu in the dockbar using a hook was easy.

I have not tried that but you can remove VIEW permission for Notification for Role. There is Notification section for you under Define Permission section when you define Role permissions.
Yes, Notifications gets generated dynamically and pops-up in dock-bar.

This does not work, the portlet is still displayed in the dockbar...
