Settin DLFileEntry CustomField in a a portlet. How to publish the document?

HI,

I have this problem. I have a portlet wher with a checkbox I'm able to set a DLFileEntry custom field to true or false. Everything goes fine, If I open editing mode for the document, I can verify that my custom field i set has the right value.
My problem is:

This value, therefore belongs to my staged version of the file. If I want to retrieve the custom field value from an other portlet, I still retrieve the old value because my document it's not published with the new value.
How I can publish my document to live programmatically?
I hope I was clear.
