Authentication issues using NTLM and IE 7/8

I'm running Liferay 6.0.10EE and am using Active Directory as the LDAP server and NTLM for single signon is enabled. When I click the sign in link in Internet Explorer (7/8), I get an Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage error. However, it works fine in Firefox and Chrome. Anyone have any idea what the problem is or assist me in troublshooting this?

I think you have to add your URL as trusted or intranet site in IE Settings.

I went into Internet Options -> Security. Then clicked on Local intranet icon and clicked the Sites button. Then I clicked the Advanced button and added my website hostname. Also lowered my security settings to Low. It still doesn't work. What's interesting is that if I turn on the web debugger for IE named Fiddler, then it works. Fiddler must change some security settings, but not sure which ones.
