Closing The Tab In Hook

Well Folks it seems easy nothing gonna work till now.

As i am working on login and registration form by using hook . The questions comes when the new person sign up in portal then
email will be generated in mail , and when i check then

1- By going to inbox in mail and click to activate then a new portal will be open .
2-But The problem comes What about the existing Tab that is still open , need to be closed. where i did registration
3- Tried the JavaScript code but nothing gonna work as the property says , the tab can be close if the tab is been opened by it using script.

Any Ideas?? How to close the previous tab .
