Why UUID in the download URL for files

Hi there

I just wonder, what is the point of having the UUID at the end of download-urls ?
It does not seem to have any effect.

https://mysite.no/documents/10157/0/fil.pdf/81472803-9e5d-4084-bc0d-4a56d2000ed9

removing the uuid part has no effect as far as I can see.

I think it just clutters the urls, making them harder to use for users (users use the urls in email or docs)
