How to change default URL for guest users.

Hi All,

When I tried with defualt URL http://111.111.111.70:8080/ and it is changed to http://111.111.111.70:8080/ web/guest;jsessionid=AA800BA699B1EA316B856ACE1E3374EB this URL.

I'd like to show /home in place of /web/guest in default URL, how to do this. Where I need to change this?

Hi Sharath,

You may take following tasks

1) apply virtual hosting on Guest community;
2) disable jsession.

For example,
http://www.sesamestreet.org

I'm not looking for virtual host.

Say when I use default URL http://111.111.111.70:8080/ it is adding /web/guest and displaying page.

Where I need to change so that it will add /home in place of /web/guest rather than configuring virtual host.

Hi,

If you want to replace /web/guest by /home...,you must need to go for virtual hosting,
Because if you go to manage pages and see URL of any page ,it always will have /web/guest embeded in it.
then you can set this in your portal-ext.properties.

company.default.home.url=/home

So this will redirect to home page.
And if you dont want to do virtaul hosting

company.default.home.url=/web/guest /home

For Virtual Hosting you can refer as Jonas mentioned.

Hi Guys,
i am sick and tired of ths URL stuff. I have tried every forum, every example, every wiki and still, what seems a ridiculously simpletask, is turning me right off Liferay.

I want to od the same thing.

I want to set my default web page to node/web/mysite and it goes back to guest over, and over and over and over again.
I tried setting properties ext, I tried setting virtual hosts, Jeez I am fed up, a waste of two weeks, that I was hoping to demo the "value of Liferay"

I am now in day10 of trying to get a defailt web page set up.
If anyone could help out I woild greatly appreciate it.

I have renamed my liferay site to jam.
I have created a web page called 'home' in addition to 'what we do' etc
Whwt i want to do is simply. I want home to appear as the defailt page, when the user types say www.jam.com, at the moment it is 'what we do' or nothing (nothing when i delete the pqge)

What exactly do i need to change in terms of portal settings, site settings, page settings and portal-ext.properties

Please please please give me al the instructions i need, don't assume I know anything.

Day 11
Still continuing in frustration. It has been almost 11 days now since I set off on my journey to create a web page, any web page, other than the default "what-wedo".

Today I changed the poral-ext.properties, with little enthusiasm, knowing there would be no effect. Set the company.default.home.url=/web/liferay/home, after creating a simple hello world web page, called home.

Nothing happended after re-starting the server. The large emptiness, the thought of knowing you are limited to the goodwill of people adds to the dispair. I vainly search books for what must be my 20th time. 6.1 Admin guide, Portal developers. Forums,Liferay Portal 6 Enterprise Intranets, Liferay in Actions (meaps).

tried every suggestion, still no success.
Changed the Portal settings again, setting URl home to www.jam.com, (my mystical domain)m but still the url each time returns to the what-we-do page, jeering, mocking, teasing, telling me that no ordianry mortal has the power to use Liferay as a public web site.

But still I try, reletless, determined not to be beaten. I have what must be an army of techies on the task now, each one coming up with the same problem as me.
Is there a bug in Liferay 6.21 I hear on almost a daily occurence now.

"No" I tell them, there must be something out there, look at sesame street that as showcased as the site, they have no "what-we'd-" page. Still we progress, hope fading, knowing one day the world will find us huddled over our computers, liek Scott of the Antartic, huddled over his long spent stove.

Day 11 evening. Tried one last attempt at setting site settings friendly URL, still no progress, still "what-we-do" turns up, I search the internet in vain for reidrecting from "what we do", no hope, no luck, the world has stopped, some day, maybe someday

In case anyone else finds this thread whilst searching for how to change /web/guest to something else, I found / used the following soloution:

Rather than change /web/guest to /home I changed it to /web/public, which I did as follows:

• Create a new community from Portal -> Communites called Public
• Set the old Guest community not to be active (as its not possible to delete it)
• Under Portal -> Settings set Home Url to /web/public
• That should be it and if you try it out you'll notice that if you go to your domain / ip addreses that it still trys to goto /web/guest and returns an error
• If you goto Server -> Server Admistration and clear the cached content that should fix the problem described above (it did for me)
