If you install liferay on a pre-existing application server, I think liferay will be under the application folder. You'll have to manually set up location of data and deploy directories and these should be outside of the application server directory.
I add the following in my portal-ext.properties file to change the liferay directory. except that it fails to load some files. how to fix it?
portal.ctx=../liferay
resource.repositories.root=../liferay
liferay starts but without formatting
