Web content copy issue

Hello,
I recently added the property journal.article.force.autogenerate.id=false to give meaningful IDs to my site's web content, but since then the copy function has not been working properly when trying to copy a certain type of content.
I have a structure and a template for both footers and headers, and the ones that I am unable to copy are the footers.
When trying to copy a footer and give it a meaningful ID, it gives an error and the logs say it's a java.lang.NullPointerException on copyArticle
Would anyone know why it only happens on the footers and not the headers?
And is there a way to know which one of the following (long userId, long groupId, java.lang.String oldArticleId, java.lang.String newArticleId, boolean autoArticleId, double version) is null?
Thank you very much!
David
