I got the solution.. Just copy and paste POI.jar into lib folder of the particular portlet..

Wrong wrong wrong.

Enter it as a dependency jar in liferay-plugin-package.properties file.

What David means is poi.jar is already included in Liferay so you can just specify it in liferay-plugin-package.properties instead of installing it again in your portlet.

Refer to Table "2.4 Liferay-specific project configuration files" in "Liferay in Action" book.
