Liferay India User Group? #LIUG

Hi, Indian Liferay Community Members!
After contacting with several indian users, I've got the feedback about this idea that Paul Hinz launched yesterday: why don't we create the Liferay India User Group?
This year I've been involved in the creation of the Liferay Spain User Group and in six months we are around 50 members, we have gathered in 4 different cities, we have started several interesting projects, and we are planning to do many cool things: the experience has been so nice that we want to spread this model to many other countries. I think India could be an awesome place to start this adventure promoting this kind of activities, but we need local expertise, local leaders.. and that's you!
What do you guys think about this cool idea? Do you think it is doable to create a group of people that gathers once every one or two months to share knowledge and experiences about Liferay? It would be a group of people that want to learn new things, a group of people that think about projects to improve Liferay, to create and share/sell new plugins or just to spread the word by presenting the project and looking for more pasionate developers in your country.
I can assure you that meeting passionate open source people is one the best experiences of participating in a community.
I hope you share your thoughts about this and I wait for your feedback!
Regards!
Juan Fernández

Hi Jignesh and Nilesh!
One of the most important things to know is where are the Indian members geographically. For the Spanish user group we created this map so that we know where are more users in order to organize activities. Maybe you could start with that. Any volunteers?
Apart from that, we need to identify some indian communtiy "leaders" to start the User Group: people who are involved in the community and want to propose activities, meetings, ideas...
Once we have both issues solved, then we can create a user group page and start discussing activities and events in different cities around the country where there are Liferay developers
What do you think?
Thanks!

Hi Juan,
I like the idea and I am in.
I am not sure how this map was created, but can take that up.
I guess the interested people will have to go and map their location on the map.
Regards,
Tina

Hi Tina!
Nice to see you're in! Welcome aboard!
To create a map like that, you need to go to maps.google.com and with a gmail account, in the "My Places" section you can add a new public map. Once you're done, you need to invite people to put their marks in the map. For that you need to go to "Collaboration" and then invite collaborators (identified by email address). That's it. Once they're invited, they can add their marks.
Ask me if need more info with that!
Regards

Well friends! It's nice to see you are welcoming the idea!
The next step would be that some of you (Ravi? Nilesh?) send an email to community@liferay.com so that James can generate the user group page for us.
And then we will have a wiki page, a complete forums section and a place to discuss where to go next! Who volunteers to send that email?
PS: Tina! Are you having problems with the map? Ask for help in case you need it

Hey All,
I've created the Liferay India User Group home on our community site. Since there will likely be many members joining, you'll see no "Member List" on the right-hand side of the page, like you see in other groups. For now, I've added a link to the Members Map on the front page of the user group (this points to the Google map for LIUG members).
I've also created a new forum category -- if you need sub-categories (for example, "events", "general discussion", etc) let me know which you'd like! The calendar and front page can be edited by any registered user. Thanks for organizing and I hope to see great activity from this group If you need any additional support, you can contact community@liferay.com! Be sure to let us know of any events that you may wish to organize, we can help with that as well. Thanks all!

i also integrate this map in my blog site (http://www.liferaycms.blogspot.com/p/liferay-india-use-group.html).
So we would have more users who can locate their place.
Still this blog is under construction and i am putting more and more information to interact more people towards liferay .

Hi Syed!
Sure! The Liferay community is not only for "techies", but for all users/admins/commercials/IT directors (etc) that are somehow related to Liferay.
Actually I find really interesting the "non-tech" approach when gathering in user groups meetings, because they can see problems or possible improvements that we the engineers don't usually see, so please, extend a warm welcome to all different points of view in this group
Thanks, guys, keep this moving!

Hi Juan and Tina,
I think we need some modification to the permission part on the LIUG Map. Presently whats happening is everyone has the access to modify everything. So mistakenly, many of them either modifying other user's map location or sometimes even modifying Map name to their own name.

Hi Nilesh,
I understand your concern. But the issue is that the Map doesnt have permissions as good as Liferay permissions :-)
There are just permissions available
1) Collaborators may invite others
2) Allow anyone to edit this map
If I dont give allow anyone to edit this map people will not be able to add their location.
Let me know if you know a way of doing it.
