Questions on IBM WAS & LifeRay

Hi All Forumers,

Appreciate your advise on the following quick questions:

1. IBM Websphere Application Server (WAS) version 9.0 working with any LifeRay Community or Enterprise Edition? Anyone facing issue on installing LifeRay on IBM WAS 9?

2. What is the highest version of LifeRay Community (CE) or Enterprise (EE) edition that is working in IBM WAS 7?
LifeRay Community Edition =
LifeRay Enterprise Edition =

3. What is the minimum version of LifeRay Community (CE) or Enterprise (EE) edition that can support responsive layout design?
LifeRay Community Edition =
LifeRay Enterprise Edition =

4. What is the efforts required for changing from LifeRay Community (CE) edition to Enterpise (EE) edition?
Data Migration?
Code Retrofit?
Re-design the existing template to support for Enterprise Edition?

Hi Robbie,

About enterprise versions of Liferay here you have all the compatibility matrix of last versions, with information of supported WAS versions: https://web.liferay.com/es/services/support/compatibility-matrix

About community versions:

• Liferay 7 community doesn't support any WAS version, it only supports open-source application servers (tomcat and wildfly)
• Liferay 6.2 community can be installed in WAS 7, 8 and 8.5

About moving from community to enterprise, it is easy:

• A data upgrade must be executed
• No code changes should be necessary in custom developments (some testing)

About to upgrading from 6.2 to 7/dxp a code rewrite can be necessary.

My advice is to start with Liferay 7 / dxp. Liferay 6.2 was released in 2013 and at the end of 2017 support will become limited (no fixpacks, only security hotfixes)

Hi Jorge,

Thanks for your thought explanation on the feasibility of adapting to LifeRay Community edition for various applications server.

However when we came across to download the required LIfeRay Portal 7.0 GA4 in the liferay website, we found that it is always bundled with Tomcat or WildFly. Is there any LifeRay CE 7.0 GA4 standalone available for download?

You'll find all of the other variants (including the bundles) on sourceforge. And there's no capital "R" in Liferay.
