OpenID should feel like a first class citizen and be listed as a choice next to traditional username/password
Have you ever visited sites such as stackoverflow.com? Notice how you can only login using OpenID? They have removed the ability to use username/password pairs. This should be supported within Liferay based on portal.properties.
In order to increase security, instead of "remember me" how about "remember my username" and "remember my password". The option for the later should be configurable via portal.properties.
The look-and-feel should feel more like: https://www.mindmeister.com/users/login You may want to allow for special logos here and even the option of pulling content from the repository that could be displayed alongside.
