Best way to create a private page

Hi,

I would like to know the best way to create a private page.

Is including the private page information in the portal-ext.properties or writing a hook is better?

It sounds like you're not looking for a private, but a personal page. The easiest way is to attach them to a UserGroup and assign the usergroup to the users where you want the personal page to appear on their personal profile.

Caveat: This works best for additions, not for changes or deletions to existing pages.

The criteria for me is to have a private page.

When a user clicks on a link, it should open a private page which will have its own portlet and column layout defined.

So i am trying to find out which is the best approach?

Can you be more specific about the underlying problem you want to solve - not on the technique that you chose to implement? I don't get what you're asking for (or why you'd like to see it exactly this way), the underlying usecase might help to understand or to suggest an alternative solution.

What's the problem with using liferay's default private page feature. If you need to have some portlets preset, you can just use site templates.
