liferay to windows server---please help!

hello,

i have downloaded the "liferay6 bundled with tomcat" to my pc .
now i want to put it on windows server 2003 pc as i need it with my friends to share our documents on it.
i have paste it on the server "192.168.21.33" , but how can i put its address as [ http"//192.168.21.33:8080/]

you may need to do virtual hosting i think.
For that you can make entry in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
92.168.21.33 xyz.com

Hi Saly,

Are you on the same network with your friends? The IP address you have copied is an internal one. If you and your friend are on the same network, you can use the http://192.168.21.33:8080 address (if the 192.168.21.33 is the server's IP address).

If you want to share the documents with someone outside of your network, you'll need to modify your router / firewall configuration to forward the external port to your external server. You can find more information about it on the router / firewall UI or documentation.

thx for your help.
yes we are on the same network. but if i use loalhost on the server i cant open the portal from my pc.
so i want to replace it by 192.168.21.33 .

if i downloaded the liferay to my pc and put the 192.168.21.33 instead of localhost, each one can open the portal from his /her pc but the problem that every file or document added to the portal will be located on my pc and the files are with large sizes, so i want to put it on the server to avoid this problem.

I'm not completely sure if I understand it

If you put the server IP to the URL you should access the liferay instance. You can edit where tomcat listens to a port in the server.xml, however I think it should work for you without any modifications.

Try to switch off the firewall on the windows server, probably it's the one who blocks the access.

By default, tomcat bundle default should be localhost:8080

I'm not sure why 192.168.21.33 because the default port number is 8080.

Just paste the server(Common Machine's) IP Address to browser. As you have mentioned that you are on same network.

You don't need to add entry in host file also.

hello kitan,

i have changed the port to 8081 as the IT use 8080. and i pasted the server IP Address to browse like this:
http://192.168.21.33:8081
now when i hit enter ; "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" appear .

note: firewall is off on my pc and on the server.

any help will be greatly appreciated

Hi Saly,

Paste the server IP Address like : 92.168.21.33:8081

Windows firewall is on in my machine. But, I think it's not the issue if you turn of the windows firewall.
