Import/Export Website Templates

I use the website template to create the same site for all communities. It takes to much time to create it. The Import of the sites as LAR fails even using the same liferay version (6.1)! Is their an other way to exort/import site templates from a liferay Installation to other? And if their a way to do that with different liferay versions?
