Hi Charu,

Take a look at the portal.properties file and search for the section Captcha. There you can enable/disable some areas/portlets of Liferay that can use captcha.

You should apply the changes into your protal-ext.properties more info regarding configs for your captcha, check this link

A lot of properties can be configured in liferay. Those are defined in portal.properties file which is in portal-impl.jar file in side tomcat/webapps/root/web-inf/lib directory. Spend some time on that file.. you will get many concepts clear from there..

To override any property from portal.properties file we create a portal-ext.properties in tomcat/webapps/root/web-inf/classes directory and put those properties in this new file. When portal runs it checks for portal-ext.properties and override the properties defined..

Did you take a look at the portal.properties? This file is highly documented and you should be able to find all you need under the Captcha section, just read the documentation.
