Case Study: QAD’s Evolving Web Systems Architecture
Room: Boulevard A, Time: 10:00am - 10:30am
Bob Ward
IT Engineer, Principal, QAD
Session Summary:

Recently, QAD successfully launched a new global customer support website, and are now positioned to add more features and benefits to customers. A large part of the success can be attributed to an approach which carefully considers several aspects of IT architecture. At the outset of the project, there was a need to evaluate the infrastructure and determine if business requirements could be met, which included personalization, usability and analytics. Customer data had to be modeled, across several systems including Marketo, Salesforce, Sugar CRM and their data warehouse. This data had to be included in a custom user profile within Liferay and then leveraged via Audience Targeting rules in order to segment customers into appropriate groups. The goal was to provide a user experience tailored to the user according to specific knowledge of each customer.

For instance, you will learn how to (re)implement some classic design patterns using the OSGi runtime, making them even more useful than before. Secret Sauce to Rolling Out Multiple Websites on Liferay
Room: Continental B, Time: 11:20am - 11:50am
Ravinder Singh
Director, Web Platforms and Mobility, Daiichi Sankyo Inc.
Session Summary:

At Daiichi Sankyo, we believe in the ability to respond to the changing landscape. In the last 8 years, we have leveraged Liferay in our ecosystem to align our individual, departmental and corporate goals. In our assembly line, we had 36 Brand websites that catered to diverse audiences - patients, healthcare professionals, pharmacists and more. Our ability to respond to our competition is measured by how quickly we could roll these sites out. So we grouped the websites based on their nature, audience and application and utilized Liferay to create a framework with dynamic components that can be reused across these websites. Each site is differentiated based on their design and brand guidelines and features applicable for that portal. These sites were responsive on various devices. The approach of leveraging a “Lego block style” reusable module simplified what at the inception seemed like a daunting task. Our sites were up and running in no time. We have already gone LIVE with 16 websites this year and 4 other external facing sites. We also saved cost as we were able to cut-down on a few services with our agency. Currently, we are building Single Page Applications (SPA) using Liferay and Angular JS. These websites are highly responsive with a mobile app like interface. Our roadmap also includes upgrading to Liferay DXP to leverage its new features. Join us for this 30 minute session, as we share our learnings and experience working on Liferay to create reusable frameworks that save time and cost.

If you are familiar with the old dockbar or the Control Panel, you will be blown away by the new Product Menu and Control Menu, which now give administrative users the power to perform any action they wish with a few clicks, without losing context of their actions. The User Bar gives logged users a way to access their personal tools. The Simulation menu allows content creators to preview their content simulating different contexts. All of these tools have been redesigned following a very decoupled and modular approach that allows any app in the marketplace to be integrated with them. In addition, they can be easily configured, modified or replaced to give your Liferay installation all the flexibility you need.

Why Customer Experience? What Should Digital Leaders Do About it? (Slides will be available till 11/11/16)
Room: International South, Time: 10:20am - 11:00am
Mark Grannan
Analyst, Forrester Research
Session Summary:

Many enterprise digital leaders find themselves unable to easily answer some key questions about customer experience. How do we quantify CX? How can we compare our brand to others? And ultimately, why should we care? Forrester defines customer experience with our customer experience index (CXi), and while many organizations love being able to gauge their brand health, oftentimes brand health and business health (e.g. revenue) remain disconnected. This disconnect stymies the business case for many digital leaders to grow their skills, teams and technology. Forrester will share a model to translate CX to business performance. Finally, we'll discuss strategies that individual organizations can take -- based on their vulnerability to digital disruption -- to improve (digital) customer experience.

Increase user conversion and the sales related with the digital channel via a multi device solution and a brand new UX / visual design. Make the Liferay Elastic Instances model available to the cloud and totally based on a DevOps strategy. Liferay 6.2 and AWS as IaaS & DevOps platform leverages the initiative. Case Study: Digitizing Communications Across 1000+ Coach Stores
Room: Continental C, Time: 2:30pm - 3:00pm
Adrienne Sweeney
Senior Manager, Business Solutions, COACH, Inc.
Madhukar Kakaraparthi
Senior Manager, Applications, COACH, Inc.
Session Summary:

Visual Merchandising is at the heart of the Coach Retail business. Our visual merchandisers dictate the layout and arrangement of every visual element in our stores to drive sales and articulate the Coach brand to our customers. The communication of this information to our stores is critical. Just as important is the ability for our Visual Merchandising team to ensure each store has implemented their direction as intended. But our Visual Merchandising process was in trouble: globally we were using nearly a dozen tools to communicate to our stores; our processes were regionalized and, with geographically dispersed stores and teams, they were difficult to execute; and without a truly digital solution, email, printing and physical mail remained the high-cost, high-labor backbone of our process. Needless to say, our Visual Merchandising team was ready for Liferay. Utilizing core functionality, clever extensions and with simplicity as our mantra, we were able to deliver a single global platform that has allowed our Visual Merchandising team to retire regional tools, consolidate processes and stop printing and mailing forever!
