I really don't understand you want to learn how to calculate leaves ? on liferay forum ? Seriously ?

Calculating in general , make sure that it should be incremented by one day if you are present for first twenty days from the start of the month..

Create a timecard portlet and modify the calendar portlet so it'll be able to recognize holidays including company holidays.
Now, the difficult part is if your company supports working from home. If not, you can just setup liferay internally and calculate hours worked from the time an user logins and sign off the portal. You can calculate the total number of earned leave by counting how many times an employee has logged in and looking at the modified calendar.
