Providing - secure folder for file upload and download

We are looking to provide a secure folder for each user that logs into our site to upload and download content from. The content in this folder should only be available to the user that uploaded it and the site administrators. I am looking for the most elegant solution that allows a user to both upload/download file types of (.doc, .xls, .jpg, .bmp, and .zip).

I have found posts that seem to be focused on older versions of Liferay for providing this functionality. I am either looking for confirmation that these same approaches can be used with Liferay 7 or perhaps a more elegant solution that is now available in Liferay7 community edition.
