Can't create a new theme plugin projects in Liferay 7 IDE

New Liferay 7's IDE. This used to be pretty easy in 6.2 and below but now a get the following error in 7.0:

As a side not I had selected styled them as my starting point so I'm sure why its complaining about unstyled not existing. I also tried classic and it did complain about its not existing.

Hey, William!

Honestly I would recommend using the new theme development tools rather than trying to stick with the SDK. Using gulp, yeoman, etc. will have a learning curve to get up to speed, but they should make theme development and testing easier once you get used to them.

I can't believe I have to install node to create a Liferay theme now.

Tried upgrading one of my existing 6.2 themes to 7.0 doing the following:

I was able to build a war and deploy only to get the following:

They are still available in unstyled and styled, so they should still be there.

I'd be worried about that SERVLET_CONTEXT portion of the url, it may mean that the upgrade tool does what it can to help with the upgrade but cannot do it 100%...

Yes I read the generator documentation and it does not seem to jive with the current form of the generator I downloaded yesterday.

I followed the the instructions on https://github.com/liferay/generator-liferay-theme and not everything in its current state jives with whats on this page. For instance I'm suppose to get a prompt asking if I want Compass support. That never happens. When use gulp extends I'm suppose to be able to select unstyled or styled, never happens. Some of the gulp actions are throwing exceptions a baling.

TypeError: Cannot read property 'realPath' of undefined

This is kind of frustrating. The SDK seems to be busted for themes and the new generator seems to be broken as well.

I have a hard time believing that this new generator is suppose be easier to setup and use than the SDK/IDE. I watched a video where one of the reason why they went to this tool was because ANT was to hard to install on Windows. But getting this new generator all setup correctly on Windows is easier?

Its definitely not easier to then the SDK/IDE theme development method. But it seems like Liferay is abandoning the SDK. Just Great.

This new generator tool is kind of immature for prime time.

I've been working with Liferay since 2010. Brought into a couple of companies but maybe its time to go to something new. The MEAN stack looks pretty good. What the heck I already have Node installed.

I try my best; I too am still learning and exploring the new tools. I know our front end guys love them, they have used them on other recent projects that are non-liferay, and they can slide into Liferay theme development pretty easily.

I see it as just a new challenge for us "cross-functional" developers who do both front and back end development. And in learning the new toolset, we'll be able to add them to our linked in profiles
