Is it possible to override an MVCPortlet Command?

Hi,
I am a new developer currently working with liferay 7.
Currently, I am trying to write what used to be a hook by following this documentation:
https://dev.liferay.com/develop/tutorials/-/knowledge_base/7-0/converting-strutsactionwrappers-to-mvccommands
As I write, I found out that the class I need to override is a MVC Portlet Command instead of a base MVC Action Command.
Is there a way to override this? If there is, is it a similar process?
