Hook deployment?

Hello all,
I've written my own hook which I'd like to deploy to a LifeRay installation. I'm having troubles doing so.
When I copy my hook-war to the LifeRay deploy folder, all is fine. The hook is deployed and working. However, after restarting LR, the hook is gone.
The "Hook plugins" screens in the Admin portlet aren't working (they are always empty, in several installs).
How should I statically deploy my hook plugin? Can I make these plugins load from a portal configuration file?
