We are studying computer science at the BUTE, both of us are likely to get the Masters degree within a year. We are in web development several (~5) years for now, and most likely we will continue on this track.

For myself, I have some favourite technologies (like GWT and functional like programming), but also like to play with different frameworks. Working with Struts and Alloy seems like a great challenge.

We like to work on both the frontend and the backend. We like practical tasks that makes software usable, and not engineering and proving academical grade algorithms. I'm sure it will be easy to find a task for us that fits.

Hi Tamás,

Can the Struts and Alloy be a direction for you? Would you like to take part in the e-learning project, or do you have any own idea?

The Struts is used for page flow and language handling in the base built in Struts portlets. Basically, the Struts is used in these type of portlets. Do you have any other concept?

As for Alloy, you can deal with this in any type of portlets you choose, either the proposed e-learning, or any custom project where there is view layer.

In case of e-learning somehow we should separate the tasks. In this case, that would be the best if you could concentrate on one part.

Of course if you'd have some custom direction, as for the concept, we can work on that as well.

Regards,
Zsigmond

Hi,

the e-learning project will be nice, as we originally registered for this oneemoticon We have some experience with GWT and integrating it with Liferay. But I think it is a so distinct user experience than what other Liferay portlets have, so Struts will do just fine. We have little experience with it, but we know JSP, so I don't think it would be a problem. Alloy seems interesing, we have worked with the html+css+js combo, I hope AUI will more like simplifying things.

We are waiting for the concrete task declaration to start working.

Hi Tamás,

As more attendees of this competition chose the e-learning project we started to think on one big project which would be separated to different tasks which would match your skills and knowledge. So every team would work on one task, using test data to be independent from other teams.

We need a little more time to refine the project and will get back to you with the tasks and details in the following days.

Adorján

Hello Tamas, hello David,

I believe, the most effective way to get familiar with Liferay, is to get and build a trunk and fool around in the Control Panel. Please do it if you have not done yet.

To get familiar with each other we definitely must drink a beer, but before we can do that, please let me estimate our limitations so I can help you setting up a feasible scope:
  • How often do you see each other?
  • How much time you are planning to allocate weekly?
  • Together or separately?

We should meet up soon, but before that, make sure you answer this thread.

You should start building up knowledge in the following not-so-technical fields:
  • what features a common e-learning system has (e.g. moodle)
  • how liferay 6.1 is built up (consider groups, roles, sites and teams)
  • what common patterns you see in the two points above

Lorinc
