There's a response header in the HTML which will identify the site as Liferay. It can be disabled, but I don't believe most sites do it.

In addition to David's answer: There are typical DOM elements, which are present in every Liferay installation that hasn't been severely customized. Just compare them - but be aware that they differ significantly between different major Liferay versions.

Another alternative, from a front end perspective, open your console in your browser and type "Liferay", this should display Liferay's JS object if the site is built with LR.
