Replying to a Forum Post Using an e-mail Client..?

Hi,

I am using liferay-portal-6.2.0 Community Edition. I am tweeking the functionality of the message boards portlet and I wanted to know if there is a way we can reply to a forum post using our e-mail client like outlook or gmail ?

Example: If I get a notification that there is a post in the category that I have subscribed and I want to reply to that post using my mail client, So what mail alias should I reply to so that my reply gets updated into the correct post under correct category.

Has anyone ever implemented the same successfully ? If Yes, Please help me out with this. I would be really thankful.

I am referring to a blog which says that it is possible but it is throwing some exceptions while connecting to a configured mail server. Below is the link which i am referring :-

Hi Prasad,

I have implemented it successfully.
You can just follow the liferay documentation as is.

Also you will need a liferay hook "email-to-mb-filter-hook" to remove the extra mail chain from the post when you reply from the e-mail client.

There are 3 major steps :-

Configuring the portal-ext.properties file.
Configuring the Portal for smtp & pop servers.
Enabling the Message Boards Notification.

Do we have to do the configuration through a Hook to enable this
functionality.?
