Upgrade CKEditor to 4.x

The version of CKEditor bundled with Liferay is 3.5.3, which does not work with IOS devices. In order to get support for IOS devices, CKEditor needs to be at version 3.6.2 at a minimum. CKEditor is now at 4.0. Please upgrade CKEditor to the latest version so that we get the latest functionality and support for IOS devices.

so the good news are that we have already upgraded to CKEditor 4.0
Mr. Iliyan Peychev did it, but it's still on revision. You can follow the progress of his pull request here or better, follow the progress of the Jira ticket here

I don't think there's going to be a GA3. I think the next stable official release is going to be 6.2.0 GA1

Our plan is to start the beta cycle in May/June. All help testing it will be very helpful to get to GA status sooner

It should be a 6.1.2 GA3 release sooner than 6.2.0, as James said in some forum post.

Correct, but that's a maintenance release so it will not include the upgrade to CKEditor 4 (which is treated as a new feature).

I recently had the requirement to support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) with a Liferay Portal 6.1 CE installation.

The usage of the "old" CKEditor V3.x puzzled me quite a lot. V3.x does not really support IE11 - there are quite a lot of problems concerning the text buffer, cut&paste and other CKEditor features.

As upgrading the complete installation to LR 6.2 was no option, I started creating a "private patch". I copied most of the CKEditor v4.x code from a LR 6.2 CE GA3 installation (located .../webapps/ROOT/html/js/editor) - at least all subfolders. I didn't replace the config-files (ckconfig.jsp, ckconfig_bbcode.jsp) though, but had to alter them slightly.

This works fine for me. I checked bbcode-editor in message board, and web content, blog and wiki editing.

I attached a ZIP-file of the editor-folder that worked out for me in LR 6.1 CE GA2 and GA3.
