Difference between <finder> and <finder-column>

Can you please explain what is the difference between <finder> anf < finder-column>..., which is use for searching the contents....,

The finder element represents a generated finder method.

The finder-column element specifies the columns to find by.

Just like to add one point in Harish response:

<finder-colum> is used to generate a finder method, and the same becomes the parameter of the finder method.
