how to increase the performance of my liferay website?

hi,
my website develop in liferay 6..x. i am using tomcate 7 and MYSQL.
website is very slow in performance . can any one tell me how to increase the performance of website. (currently 200 user use my website)

You can check your server performance using Jconsole and can identify where its getting more CPU time or process.

That's like saying "My mode of transportation is really slow, how can I get to where I want to be faster?" without telling us whether you're riding a bike, hauling equipment on an 18 wheeler, or driving a porsche...

How are you determining poor performance? How consistent is it? Are logins slow, navigation slow, or just custom plugins which you've developed?
