Liferay private pages in a community not accessible

Can anyone help with this?
When i login to the portal i am redirected to the private pages in a community. But if i am not logged in and if i am trying to access the private page using its url from the browser, i am redirected to the login page but after login is successful instead of displaying the page on browser i am prompted to download an empty file. I am using liferay v6.0.5
I have the following in my portal-ext.properties
auth.forward.by.last.path=true
auth.forward.by.redirect=true
