Access portal-ext.properties file on Debian server

Junior Member Beiträge: 34 Beitrittsdatum: 01.11.10 Neueste Beiträge
Hello,

our provider set up Liferay on a shared virtual server, running debian.
When I access the IP address via port 22 (using Putty) I can't find any files excet for the liferay-bundle.zip. The Liferay installation runs on port 8080.

How can I access the files? Especially the portal-ext.properties file?

Kind regards
Greg

portal-ext.properties file does not exists in the initial installation. You'll have to create it.
The location of the file depends on the application server (e.g. Tomcat, JBoss) and not on the OS.

You have to tell us which application server you're running Liferay.

It runs on a Tomcat server, Liferay-Tomcat-Bundle. The problem is that I can't access any of the directories or files. On port 22 there is only the liferay-tomcat-bundle.zip.

I could solve the problem by using FilaZilla instead of Putty.
Liferay is in the home folder, not in root.

You've mentioned that there is only a zip file. Have you unzipped it and have Liferay running? Before customizing the setting, it better to make sure that you have Liferay running in your environment.

Thank you. yes, it is unzipped. I found the files in the home-folder of the VPS server. The liferay installation looks ok, but now I can't access the Liferay website on xx.xxx.xxx.xx:8080.

Is it possible to restart Liferay on the VPS server without rebooting the whole Debian system? How can I execute the startup.sh or startup.bat files to start Liferay? The files are there but I don't have a tool, to start them.

I have several Liferay installations on my local system, which are running fine, but I've never worked on a remote VPS server so far...

Regards,
Greg

If you have a shell account, you only have to ./start.sh and ./stop.sh
If you don't know what this means, you probably should be contacting your system administrator or support on instructions on how to execute shell files in your environment.

I used Putty client and entered this:
./home/liferay/liferay-portal-6.0.5/tomcat-6.0.26/bin/startup.sh

After entering this, the system reacted but there is a new error: "Cannot allocate memory"
The Putty client now doesn't react on any commands.
The sftp-access with FileZilla still works. The liferay site still doesn't work.

I don't have administration tools from the provider.

Check with you provider if you can run Liferay or any Java application
with the account you have.
Seems you don't have an account to run Liferay with your provider.

Thank you. The server is compatible with Java, but has only 1GB of memory. The provider claims that this is the reason. Is he right with this?

Is your provider saying you're allocated 1GB or that the server is total only has
1GB physical memory and that you're allocated much less.
1GB of memory is sufficient to run Liferay.

We were allocated less. Now we moved to a better server and everything works fine.
Thank for your inputs.

You're suppose to create it with a text editor under the following folder:
webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes
