problem with Mail Integration for Liferay 4.3.4 on centos 5.3 with qmail

Hi all,
I have installed centos 5.3 and the qmail-toaster and liferay 4.3.4
Everything seems to be working properly except the email submission from within
liferay. I have been able to fix the email problem following the Configure gmail smtp server with liferay post.
But I need to use the localhost smtp to send emails.
Can any one give me a hint?
I have been able to configure the localhost smtp server with liferay on opensuse which uses postfix. But, the
same configuration doesn't seem to work on centos5.3

If you're only doing outbound, you can use SSMTP to send. It's very simple to configure and "fakes" being sendmail to most applications including Liferay.
