Release Notifications Needed

I couldn't find release notifications anywhere on the website. Until I discovered the sourceforge file release monitoring link, I was just checking the download page every now and then and being completely surprised when a new version dropped. I follow the main blogs rss feed and there hasn't been any notice on the day a release is available with the exception of 5.2.1. There isn't any forum topic I could find that provides this either.

At the least, there should be a link on the download page to http://sourceforge.net/project/filemodule_monitor.php?filemodule_id=42607 and a note that people can use sourceforge to find out when new versions are out.

A better option would be an RSS feed which just lists released versions with either the text of the release notes in Jira or a link to them. I poked around in Jira and couldn't find a way to output such a feed, so it might take actual work.

Why not do it like ZenCart does... when you log in as admin, it checks to see if there is a newer version and pops up a warning that tells you that you are out of date....

Thanks for the voting heads up. Sourceforge has since started offering RSS for file releases, so my complaint was addressed by them:

(It would still be cool beans if you guys added this line to the downloads page head block so that people would get the little RSS icon in the address bar:
