Question about SO

Hi,

I'm pretty impressed by the capabilities of SO because it can do very much out of the box and what it does, does it excellent.

How can I activate the IMAP Mail capability (Portlet ?!) and the shared group calendar?
My vision is to try SO as an intranet platform AND groupware and thus I need mailing and calendaring.

I assume you are using the IMAP mail Portlet which is also available in Liferay standard.
For this Portlet I have the following suggestions for enhancements to become a viable enterprise groupware:
- It must be possible to add a custom mail footer automatically to any mail
- It must be possible to choose whether to send HTML or plain text mails
- It must be possible to create folders and file emails in them
- add attachments
- forward mails

Hi R, I'm not sure what you mean by activating the shared group calendar.

For the email client, you should just be able to add your account information to the portlet under the "Mail" tab in your user space.

Perhaps you can provide more details.

thanks, ok, file file that, but my main question remains!

How can I add the Mail Portlet to my SO Portal.
In standard SO I cannot see this Portlet anywhere?

Hi,

It should be in your user home area, under the "Mail" tab.

For default users the "configuring mail accounts" gets a "Contact the administrator for privileges" message.

How can i give my useres the privilege to configure their Mail-Accounts?

I too am having a problem adding mail info. Maybe it is just me (newb). When I login as admin I cannot make any changes in the control panel. I can see all of the info but I cannot make changes there. Do I need to make the changes and upload the file to the server to make these changes? If so why have the control panel? Or is the control (lack of) there for viewing info within SO?

Paul, in the next beta the permissions are fixed. With respect to the general application mail server configuration, we created an interface in the Control Panel for updating that info.
