Hi all

Next Tuesday at our 1s Liferay User Group event, we'll be lucky to be joined by 3 different communities of developers!

The LJC, GDC and LSCC... Behind these acronyms are meetup groups with a total of 3000 members who are eager to share their skills and meet fellow techies.

It's a rare chance for us Liferay users to discuss our CMS with Java experts, learn new skills and maybe buddy up on projects!

When: Tuesday 10th April 6.30PM
Where: We're meeting at C4CC

They'll be meeting us as part of the Spring of Code events (built on Liferay) which aim to bring together geeks to work on social change apps.

We're still very much are going to talk Liferay as all of us will have a bug fixing session on our favourite CMS and hope to conjugate our knowledge to find solutions!

Don't miss this unique chance to build the Liferay community!
Hope to see you there!

Report on our Liferay meetup!

20 participants attended the London Liferay user group meetup hosted at C4CC, an interesting meeting venue for collaborative projects.

We we're lucky to have members from 4 different groups joining us: the Spring of Code, the London Java Community, the London Sofware Craftmanship Community as well as the Liferay User Group. We had an introduction of the LSCC and LJC by Sandro and of the Liferay group by Phil.

After a quick presentation of the philosophy behind the different meetup groups and projects, we decided to get everyone to buddy up on bug-fixing on a live Liferay website. It was a great way to enable people to work together and get the SpringofCode site up and running. This is a open project to make tools to help the global occupy movement to make the world a better place. You'll find on the bug-swatting page the list of bugs which we work on and still need to be looked at (and fixed!).

Hacking

- CSS
2 members specially worked on the CSS, Santosh giving great tips to Takako on how to customize themes in the Liferay.

- Geo-Locate
One group looked at and tried to configure the LR Geo-Locate community portlet which puts all members on a map based on their IP addresses, which is a great way to build a community by seeing who's around you and get coders to work together online and offline.

- Mailing list
Phil, who is a regular Liferay user showed to other developers the issue he has with using the forum as a mailing list. It is key to the Spring of Code project to get this working as it will allow all members to be kept in loop and to be able to follow the latest activity on the site.
For the list of all annoying remaining little bugs, visit our bug-swatting page.

Next meeting

We have our next meet-up already scheduled for the 4th of of June 6.30PM at C4CC so save the date in your calendar right now!

2nd Liferay User Group event coming 11th June!

You can read on the posts above the report on our 1st event. For our second meeting the Liferay User Group is lucky to have Tom Campbell, CTO at Yummi Interactive and GOSPOKEN, sharing is Liferay expertise with us! He will talk about how to use velocity templates and structures to produce formatted articles.

If you'd like to share a brief presentation on any aspect of Liferay to the group please add a comment or send an email to the organisers! And of course feel free to bring your technical issues so the group can have a look and hopefully propose solutions!

RSVP on the LR Group user event page now!
When: 11th June 6.30PM
Where: C4CC

What is the Liferay User Group about?

Liferay is a fantastic framework for creating today's open portals and this group wants to help build a thriving community around it to promote its wider use in the UK.
The user survey launched a few months ago expressed the need for a strong Liferay user group with a technical bias, as well as more presentation-based Liferay meetups. We plan to kick off a series of monthly meetings which will be a community meetup organised by its members.
You are all invited to suggest and organise events, whether they're in or out of London.
So if you want to be part of an (hopefully) active community, sign up here, start participating, sharing and learning Liferay skills!

UPDATE ON MONDAY'S MEETING:

We're lucky to have a great programme for our 2nd meeting this Monday so don't forget to RSVP!

- Presentation on velocity templates by Tom Campbell
- LR Discussions and mini-brainstorming on questions proposed by participants
- drinks and food
- vote on next event's speakers/presentations

And we hope to have one of LR's engineers to come as well.

These meetings are meant to be useful, so if you have any Liferay issues or questions feel free to let us know now or during the event!

I really think it would be great to have every active member of this forum attending, (well, if you're around London that is!), as this meeting will definitely shape the futures ones, your feedback on what's working or not would help to build a better community!

when: Monday 11th June 6.30 to 9.30pm
where: C4CC 16 Acton St London WC1X 9NG (near Kings Cross)

You can RSVP to the meeting here:
