"Social Office" is really very good (and fast) implementation of a specific use case, using Liferay Portal hooks.

It is an instance of Liferay Portal, with additional portlets such as so-portlet, chat, mail, and etc.

You can simply take so-portlet and so-theme from plugins (trunk), compile and deploy it (don't forget to study it!).

The only problem is that it is still "Community" based; Liferay is will change (for v.5.3): "Community" will become a special type of "Organization".

Another problem is... Document Library (sometimes versioning doesn't work). v.5.3 will have many improvements.

(don't forget Windows Vista 64-bit has bugs with their own WebDAV protocol).
