You have to give permission to the folder, this is because the logs needs to be created but if you don´t have permission in the folder logs it can´t be created

Thanks you.

But I think I still have a problem.

After starting the start.sh

I can see this...

/usr/liferay/liferay-portal-6.0.5/tomcat-6.0.26/bin$ ./startup.sh

Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/liferay/liferay-portal-6.0.5/tomcat-6.0.26
Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/liferay/liferay-portal-6.0.5/tomcat-6.0.26
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/liferay/liferay-portal-6.0.5/tomcat-6.0.26/temp
Using JRE_HOME: /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_21
Using CLASSPATH: /usr/liferay/liferay-portal-6.0.5/tomcat-6.0.26/bin/bootstrap.jar

and when I open with the browser http://127.0.0.1:8080

I got this message.

1
2HTTP Status 404 -
3
4type Status report
5
6description The requested resource () is not available.
7Apache Tomcat/6.0.26

Something wrong in the installation process.?

regards,
koko

check whether the java home is Set in Classpath. Try to extract the new liferay.zip file and then Delete the Jre folder from webapps. later start the server

Attach more Catalina.out logs.

If you are having problems try doing a fresh installation , i have tried to make a cheklist with steps that come to my mind in first pass

1>Try setting up JAVA_HOME try and use JRE available in JDK folder having JRE installed separately sometime leads to version conflict (available in JDK 5 and above)
2>Check for folder permissions
3>Download tomcat-liferay bundle make sure you have setup LIFERAY_HOME properly it is very important to set up home directory properly
4>Check for database connections.
5>check if properties are set properly in portal-ext.properties (initially for Databse change)

Try Must read for first time setup

I ll check the logs once you have attached them again emoticon
