Hello,

Starting on my first portlet project. I am trying to customize the Category Navigation portlet. In the OOTB version, you can only select one Category/Subcategory each time. I would like to add the capability where you can select 2+ categories at the same time, within a single or multiple Vocabularies.I am thinking about changing the links to checkboxes, but obviously the underlying Java code needs to change too. I do not want to override the default Category Navigation portlet but create a separate one.

I am trying to use the navigation portlet with asset publisher.

My Questions are:
1. What kind of plugin should I use? I think hooks are out of the question since I need to modify Java code. Is custom portlet doable? I want to avoid EXT.
2. How do I extract relevant code from the liferay source?

Thanks,

Jian

Hi,

Which version of Liferay you are using? If you are using 6.1 you can do many thing using hooks as well.

Which class you want to modify to override categories navigation portlet?

Thanks for the reply. The Version I am using is 6.1. I am still looking into the source code to see what classes I need to modify.

But it seems like the category navigation portlet sends category id to asset publish, which issues a query with it and get the result. So somehow if I can modify the jsp only and get it to send multiple ids, then a hook may just work.
